About the BID

The Columbus Amsterdam Business Improvement District (BID) was created to increase commercial activity and create a more vital and active business center along Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues from W. 96 Street to W. 110 Street by providing services and initiating capital improvements to make the neighborhood cleaner, safer, and more prosperous.

The BID operates along Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues, between 96th and 110th Streets. Our office is located at 991 Amsterdam Avenue (yellow awning, between 108th and 109th Streets).

Learn more about the neighborhood with our monthly Historic Bloomingdale tours with our resident historian, Jim Mackin. Upcoming dates are regularly updated on our Events page.  Call us at 212-666-9774 to learn more.

The BID’s beautification program ensures the commercial corridor is vibrant and clean through our horticulture and greening initiatives. BID staff and volunteers work to maintain planters, tree beds, and green streets year round to enhance the district. Over the years the BID has worked to get our 200+ trees a guard and proper care with the help of volunteers, city agencies, and community organizations.

The BID works to make the neighborhood a secure area by being an active voice in meetings from the community board, monthly local precinct meetings, and other community meetings. These meetings often provide a space for the community to speak up on issues, concerns, or specific problems, the BID works to make sure these opinions are heard and prioritized, striving to make this neighborhood safe and secure.

Public Safety & Advocacy

It invites residents to meet their Neighborhood Coordination Officers to discuss public safety concerns. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 6:30 pm at the Bloomingdale Library, located at 150 W. 100 St., NY. Contact Sgt. Hassel at 917-741-0554 for accommodations. The BID’s Sanitation team, in our gold and black uniforms, works year round every morning starting at daybreak to make sure the district is clean by sweeping the streets and emptying our supplemental trash bins. Our sanitation team is hired locally from the neighborhood, allowing our residents to walk down a clean sidewalk in the mornings and businesses a clean front. The BID’s sanitation services include snow shoveling of the crosswalks and the sidewalk ramps through our district, unclogging of storm drains, flyer removal, and graffiti removal. Our sanitation team are our eyes and ears to any issues in the neighborhood, making them vital to all our services. Additionally, the BID promotes supplemental programs like composting, containers for garbage, educational materials for supers, building managers, and residents.
